The country’s best-selling luxury motor car brand, Mercedes-Benz Vietnam, is also conducting a major golf tournament for its customers.

With a presence in Vietnam for 16 years, Mercedes-Benz Vietnam (MBV) has become the leading brand name in the motor car industry and is the only luxury car maker with a nationwide network.

MBV saw sales of 1,253 motor cars in the first six months of this year. The passenger car segment grew 21 per cent compared with the same period last year, coming in at more than 900 units. Since last year

Mercedes-Benz and its investment partners have been constructing a number of projects to expand its dealerships throughout the country, many of which will be finished this year. The dealerships are part of a $20 million investment in facilities and networks in the 2010-2012 period.

Famous in the motor car industry, MBV is also becoming well-known for its other activities, especially golf. The MercedesTrophy has a history of more than 20 years around the world and nine years in Vietnam. With 43 countries and over 58,000 Mercedes customers playing in the tournament, Vietnamese golfers as well as Mercedes car owners everywhere are keen to be part of the worldwide event.

The most anticipated golf tournament of the year - the MercedesTrophy 2010-2011 - attracted more than 4,000 golfers, with 21 qualifying golf clubs, two semi-finals and one country final. The final, at the Sea Links Golf Club Phan Thiet on July 9, identified the best seven golfers. Competing against 96 golfers from 21 golf clubs in Vietnam, the seven, who are also Mercedes Benz owners, secured a place in the next round - the Asian Final, in Queensland, Australia on August 24-26. The best among those will then be selected for the World Final 2011 in Germany on September 2.

This was the first time in Vietnam that Mercedes-Benz offered four hole-in-one prizes, with two CLS, one E350, and one GLK, together with a recently-released C200 on offer in a skill challenge to be held outside of the tournament.

According to Mr Martin Schulz, Sales & Marketing Director of MBV, golfers had a new experience playing on the link style golf course in the coastal town of Mui Ne in Phan Thiet, which helped the winners to be better-prepared to compete in Australia due to the similarity of Sea Links with the course they will play on Down Under.

Golfers at Sea Links can enjoy a modern yet traditional links style course found nowhere else in Asia. With a total length of 7,700 yards, each of the 18 holes has its own beauty and challenge. Heavy undulations are found on the greens and fairways, making it as challenging as they come. Billed as “The Most Challenging Links Style Golf Course in Asia”, Sea Links is destined to become one of Vietnam’s best courses.

In celebration of its 125th anniversary, Mercedes-Benz also rewarded its golfing customers in Vietnam with an appreciation package that included golf, a gala dinner and five-star hotel accommodation. The offer is open until the end of the tournament, which means that winners of the country final will also receive the entire package: a regional flight in business class, free transport, and five-star deluxe rooms for four nights in Australia and a similar standard package in Germany.

The MercedesTrophy also featured a range of attractive lucky draw prizes: a Diamond Island Sundowner Yacht cruise for 12 persons worth $10,000, a $5,000 diamond ring from Unique, a Techcombank card valued at $2,500, or a free S-class chauffeur service for three days. The events attracted major sponsors such as Coca Cola, Taylormade, Heineken, Macallan, Red Apron, Vietnam Airlines, Anantara, Imperia, Sankara, and the test drive organiser from the Mercedes-Benz authorised dealer Vietnam Star.

The Vietnam Final was also a special occasion for the company to introduce the Mercedes Card - the first card in the motor car market, as a newly added benefit to Mercedes-Benz customers on the occasion of its 125th anniversary. “We also took the occasion to introduce the Mercedes Card, the first of its kind in the auto market, as an exclusive benefit to our customers offered by Mercedes-Benz in partnership with Techcombank,” Mr Schulz said.

The Mercedes Card is both a credit card (VISA) and a membership card of Mercedes-Benz. It exclusively offers Mercedes-Benz customers with a minimum VND70 million credit limit without any supporting financial documents, and many other benefits when playing golf, and special discounts when dining at luxury restaurants, enjoying a spa, taking out insurance and receiving car maintenance, and when benefiting from loyalty programmes, etc. The card will be officially launched within the next two months. Mercedes owners can register via Techcombank or their Mercedes dealer from August 15 to receive the exclusive card when it is launched in the market.

MBV has developed a nationwide network in Vietnam, including five Autohaus (sales and service), four City Showrooms (sales) and two service outlets. The company expects to have ten Autohaus throughout the country by the end of 2012, located in the two major cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, while at the same time expanding to other major cities and provinces such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho and Vinh Long.
