VietNamNet Bridge – British coach Simon McMenemy, who brought the national football team of the Philippines to the semi-finals of the AFF Cup for the first time last year, has joined Vietnamese club Dong Tam.
The British coach suddenly appeared at the Long An Stadium on March 6 to watch the game between Dong Tam and Binh Duong.
According to Dong Tam’s officials, the coach, 34, arrived in Vietnam on the morning of Sunday, March 6. He immediately watched the game of Dong Tam in the afternoon.
McMenemy will replace the Brazilian coach Barbosa as the chief coach of Dong Tam club. It is said that Barbosa was fired on the morning of March 6.
After the game, the British coach and a coach assistant shook hands with Dong Tam’s manager Pham Phu Hoa (Dong Tam was defeated 1-2). However, he refused to answer any questions from the press. He said he was invited to watch the game, adding that it was interesting and sometimes tense.
McMenemy said goodbye to the national team of the Philippines.
After Henrique Calisto resigned, he is listed as a nominee for the chief coach position of the Vietnamese national football squad. It is rumored that McMenemy will sign a contract with Dong Tam club this week.
