An exhibition and seminar with the theme Nghe thuat Dong Son (Dong Son’s art) on Monday opened at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, 42 Yet Kieu Street, Hanoi until October 3.

The Vietnam University of Fine Arts has cooperated with the Hanoi-based Southeast Asian Prehistoric Center to hold the exhibition on research achievements focusing on the art of Dong Son Culture.

Visitors can witness typical antiques of Dong Son’s culture such as dagger holders, human statues, statues of toads, birds and tigers attached to drums, housing models and bronze drums’ patterns. Besides, there are many artistic products to be displayed including knitting, wood, black lacquers and musical instruments.

On the occasion, organizers also launched a contest named Tinh yeu danh cho my thuat Dong Son (Love for Dong Son’s fine arts) among students of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts.

Dong Son Culture is an ancient culture existing in a number of provinces in the North and Central such as Phu Tho, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh, Ha Tay, Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh and the three large rivers of the Northern Delta including Hong, Ma and Lam River in the early Bronze Age and Iron Age.

Numerous scientific researches have shown that Dong Son Culture had the foundation for the establishment of Vietnam’s first civilized states called Van Lang and Au Lac before being affected by the Han Chinese culture. Dong Son Culture is the successive development and heritance of cultures from the pre-Dong Son’s ages including Phung Nguyen, Dong Dau and Go Mun cultures.
