Foreign direct investment worth US$2.8 billion has been pledged in 13 projects in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang so far this year, according to the local Department of Planning and Investment.
Of them, seven, with a combined registered capital of $1.72 billion, are proposed in Phu Quoc island. The department said most of the investment are in the real estate and tourism sectors.

Trade sought in India and Bangladesh
The Ministry of Trade and Industry s Southwest Asia and Africa Department will take a delegation of 15 leading Vietnamese companies to India and Bangladesh next November to seek business opportunities.
The companies are involved in oil and gas, electronics, agriculture, garments, seafood, consumer goods, and other sectors.
The Government will pay for an air ticket for one representative from each company and part of the expenses of organising conferences in the two countries.

Phu My Bridge opens next month
The Phu My Bridge over the Sai Gon River linking Districts 2 and 7 will open to traffic on September 9, according to Nguyen Thanh Thai, general director of the BOT Phu My Corporation, the builder.
The 2km bridge will have six lanes, two in each direction for motor vehicles and one for motorbikes and bicycles, and a 1.5m pavement for pedestrians.
Construction of the VND1.8 trillion ($101 million) bridge began in September 2005.

US provides job training to disabled
Fifty disabled students began a 12-month software engineering and information technology management training programme this week.
Thirty three others with visual and hearing impairments enrolled for a three-month IT course under an initiative funded by the US Agency for International Development.
The programme, started in 2007, aims to train students to international standard.

Food poisoning hit 94 workers
Ninety four workers at the Korean-owned Woo Yang Vina Garment Company in HCM City s Go Vap District were admitted to a local hospital on Thursday for food poisoning.
Nguyen Trung Hoa, director of the district medical center, said the workers suffered from food poisoning symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, and dizziness after eating boiled pork, gourd soup and some other dishes for dinner at the factory.
Health officials are investigating the incident.
