Dr. Vo Thi Bich Van, deputy head of the Maternity Ward in the General Hospital in Quang Ngai Province has been dismissed from her post after being charged for negligence, that caused the death of a pregnant woman.
On July 31, Pham Hong Phuong, director of the Department of Health in the central province of Quang Ngai, decided to dismiss Dr. Vo Thi Bich Van from her post for negligence and irresponsible behavior that led to the death of a 39-year-old pregnant woman named Nguyen Thi My Hanh from Tu Nghia District and also for the death of the newborn child of Tran Thi Van Anh in Quang Ngai City.
The director also reprimanded Dr. Huynh Ngoc Thanh, head of the Maternity Ward of the General Hospital in Quang Ngai Province for his lax behavior in management and supervision that resulted in the deaths of Nguyen Thi My Hanh, Tran Thi Van Anh and Le Thi Huong.
The Maternity Hospital in the Mekong delta province of Ca Mau in coordination with related agencies is verifying the cause of the recent maternity death of 28-year-old Duong Kim Chung from Phuoc Long District, said Dr. Dang Be Nam, the hospital’s director.
A scientific council will be set up to check all examination and treatment procedures and then the hospital will inform their conclusion to relatives of the dead patient.
In the wake of an increasing number of maternity deaths, the Government had asked the Ministry of Health to determine the cause and identify those responsible. Those held accountable will be given the harshest penalties.
