(VOV) - Deputy Minister of Defence Lieutenant-General Nguyen Chi Vinh received a delegation of Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarusian veterans who helped Vietnam during its struggle against the US imperialists.
General Vinh warmly welcomed the Eastern European comrades, who are visiting Vietnam at the invitation of the Ministry of Defence.
During their struggle for national independence, the Vietnamese people and army received the wholehearted assistance of friends from the former Soviet Union; including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other socialist countries, he said.
Thousands of experts and military advisors were sent to Vietnam to help the country achieve the final victory, he recalled, adding that the Vietnamese people highly value the support from international friends, including the Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarusian veterans.
During the reception, the veterans recalled the hardships as well as the glorious victories of the Vietnamese people and army.
They expressed their wishes that the Vietnamese people, under the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, will gain greater achievements on the path towards becoming a peaceful, independent, democratic, and prosperous socialist country.
