PANO - The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and General Department of Sports and Physical Training on July 8 th organized a departure ceremony for Vietnamese national squad who will take part in Olympic London 2012.
The 56-member squad includes 18 athletes to compete in 11 sports.
As scheduled, two teams of track and field and gymnastics will head for England on July 10 th for a training course under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee and the Host’s organizing board. The remainders will gather in England on July 20 th , 7 days earlier than the opening ceremony of Olympic London 2012.
Notably, fencer Nguyen Tien Nhat will hold the national flag in a procession on the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in which Vietnam has got an official ticket for fencing for the first time.
Regarding her potential to attain a medal in this event, athlete Phan Thi Ha Thanh believed to overcome herself to bring glory to the nation because her specialty has been improved after a long training-course in the Republic of Korea and China.
Addressing the ceremony, Mr. Lam Quang Thanh, Deputy Director of General Department of Sports and Physical Training, head of Vietnamese national squad at Olympic London 2012 confirmed that athletes are ready for a victorious games.
