‘Popo looks for a friend’, the latest children’s book by Vietnamese and Danish illustrators, was launched on Wednesday at the HCMC General Science Library in HCMC’s District 1 with the participation of the Crown Prince of Denmark.

The launch, which was part of a project to develop literature for Vietnamese-Danish children, aimed to highlight the importance of helping children develop their creativity in their early school years.

The project started in 2006 and will continue until 2015.

The Vietnamese-English book published by Kim Dong Publishing House has 15 pictures in classic and modern style featuring the two countries’ cultures.

It tells the story of Popo’s journey to find a friend, because he is lonely – like many children in modern society. He finds a hole and he puts his leg into it and falls into many strange lands; first he discovers the land of books, then ice-cream land, the land of water puppetry and the land under the ground. Popo is excited and fascinated on his adventures.

“Each picture has a style, but they help the children experience and see new fantasy worlds which are an escape from real life,” said Vu Xuan Hoan, one of the artists involved in the project.

Kids can meet and play with Popo online at the website www.popotimban.blogspot.com .

From now until December 30, the first 500 people to buy the book will receive free Popo badges.
