Mr. Nguyen Huu Chien, chairman of the Danang city People’s Committee, said that initial work on the prioritized infrastructure investment projects of the World Bank directly benefit 85,000 people in improving the quality of housing for the poor, and the environment.
The information was announced during a mid-term meeting to assess the project on prioritized infrastructure investment in the city.
The project is divided into two phases, one from 2008-2011 and the other from 2009-2013. The construction project, worth USD 218.5 million, aims to upgrade urban infrastructure and resettlement areas, and repair houses, infrastructure, and urban roads and bridges.
The first 23 works have been put into operation with 85,000 people directly benefiting from the project, contributing to upgrading the urban area and the environment, improving the living environment for 450 poor families, and providing safe water and a lighting system for thousands of people.
Another 14 works in the second phase are being carried out to improve the drainage system in outlying districts.
With USD 49 million of the Official Development Assistance fund disbursed, the project is said to have the quickest disbursement of loans among all WB projects in Vietnam./.
