The match between Da Nang and Song Lam on Sunday was considered “an early V-League final” this season.
If Song Lam topping the rankings with 39 points, defeated Da Nang (ranked third with 32 points) they would have a good chance at winning this season’s title but they failed to win at Chi Lang stadium.
Da Nang took the lead in the 20th minute thanks to skipper Minh Phuong’s powerful long range shot.
After this goal, Song Lam intensified their attacks to equalise but Fagan and Trong Hoang missed two golden chances to score.
Two minutes before the break, Kalifa Dembele doubled the score for Da Nang, meeting Gaston Merlo’s fabulous cross and firing into the net.
Merlo broke through Song Lam’s defence to score his beautiful goal, widening the gap to 3-0.
Hong Viet scored the consolation goal for the visitors in the 84th minute.
The victory helped Da Nang move into second place with 35 points, four points behind Song Lam Nghe An and revive their hope in the race for the V-League title.
T & T stunned Dong Tam Long An 2-0 on Saturday and now rank third with 34 points after 19 matches. They are in running with Song Lam and Da Nang for the title.
Yesterday, hosts Thanh Hoa demolished Binh Duong 4-1 with four goals from Pape Omar while Minh Chuyen fired the consolation for Binh Duong. Hoang Anh Gia Lai beat Hai Phong 4-2 to rank seventh and Dong Thap thrashed Hanoi ACB 3-0 to gain fifth place
Hoa Phat Hanoi edged Ninh Binh 2-1 to jump from 12th to 9th place, moving out of the relegation zone.
Navibank Saigon came back from behind to draw 1-1 with Khanh Hoa.
As a result, Dong Tam Long An, Khanh Hoa and ACB are currently in the relegation zone.
