In the future, local authorities will collect statistics and identify the number of needy women, based on which they will allocate enough apartments to rent to them at privileged prices.
“From now until June this year, female residents in Da Nang who do not have a husband or have lost their husband, will also be eligible to rent our special low-rate accommodation,” Thanh said.
According to Do Thi Kim Linh, chairwoman of the Women's Association of Da Nang City, there are currently 948 women in needy situation. Nguyen Quang Thuan, director of Da Nang apartment building management company under the city’s department of construction, said they are processing applications submitted by several women’s associations. In addition, the city’s people committee is searching for new locations to build apartment complexes for the remaining women on the list.
After 8 years of waiting, Do Thi Kim Hanh, who has lost her husband for 10 years and is now living with her two children in a 10-meter square room, is told to get ready to move in her new apartment.
“I am happy to hear there is a government priority program to rent apartments to single mothers. My children are growing up and can’t live in this small room forever,” she said.
