Dong Tam Long An (DTLA) has qualified for the Under-21 National Football Championship after finishing on top of Group E by drawing 0-0 with hosts Khanh Hoa at Nha Trang Stadium last Friday.
The DTLA had been in a better position before their final qualifying match because they had beaten Tien Giang while Khanh Hoa had only been able to draw their match with the same opponents.
The draw with Khanh Hoa helped DTLA become the second team after Dong Thap from Group F to qualify for the 15th U21 National Football Championship to be held in Binh Duong Province in September.
The qualifying round of the event, which is sponsored by Thanh Nien, will go on till July 5 and the top-placed teams from groups A to F, along with reigning champs Dong Nai and hosts Becamex Binh Duong will compete in the final round in mid-September.
After the national championships, the 5th U21 International event (OFFICIAL NAME OF THE TOURNAMENT PLEASE), also sponsored by Thanh Nien, will take place in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai from September 17-27.
The best players of the national tournament will be selected to form a team to play against defending champions, Vietnam’s Under19 squad, as well as other participating teams.
Thanh Nien and the Vietnam Football Federation are planning to invite U21 teams from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and one to two teams from the Republic of Korea, the United Arab Emirates and Iran to participate in the tournament.
