A senior official from the department said more than 60% of art and performances activities in Vietnam took place in HCMC and this made the city an ideal place to host the meeting.
Recently the show biz has attracted criticisms from the media when many artists wore scanty clothes on stage.
Vuong Duy Bien, head of the department said, the department would impose stricter rules and penalties on such publicity stunts.
Bien said ideas and proposals from the upcoming meeting would be used to draft a central directive on show biz management which will be submitted to the government in December.
