VGP - During the National Tourism Year 2012, Thua Thien-Hue Province is the host to 20 major events, including 11 events held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Most of the events involve in festivals and summer activities.
According to Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Phan Tien Dung, out of over 500 cultural festivals in Thua Thien-Hue, the province has effectively restored and tapped more than 100 folk and royal festivals.
The province is focusing on infrastructure development leading to cultural heritages, and tourism sites, calling for more international flights to Phu Bai Airport, building tourism brands for Thuan An beach, and luring foreign tourists from Northeast Asia.
In July and August, Thua Thien-Hue is hosting some major cultural events, including a national professional stage festival and a music contest. The province has set targets of attracting 2-2.5 million tourists to Hue City this year, with 40-45% being foreigners.
In the first seven months of this year, the province made total tourism revenues of nearly VND three trillion.
