The number of new phone subscribers reached 7.9 million in the first nine months of 2011, a decrease of 16.8 percent over the same period last year, reported the General Statistics Office (GSO).
However, the decrease slowed when comparing each month together. Previously, the number of new subscribers in August reached 6.7 million, down 24.7 percent over the same period last year, while July had 5.7 million new subscribers, down 30.9 percent.
Also according to GSO, by September 2011, the total number of phone subscribers through the country reached more than 129 million, including 15.5 million fixed telephone subscribers and 114.2 million mobile phone subscribers.
Total post and telecom over the past nine months posted more than VND 114 trillion, up 23.6 percent over the same period last year. The number of ADSL subscribers was estimated at 31.7 million by the end of September, a year-on-year increase of 23 percent.
