With bold, unique ideas, Le Huyen Trang, a young girl in Hanoi has d stunning dresses from paper which look youthful, lovely and beautiful.
Like other professional designers Le Huyen Trang began producing her collections by searching for ideas. According to her, building up a good idea will help inspire the designer in the combination of colours and selection of suitable designs. Trang’s source of inspiration begins with the brilliant colours of nature’s plants and flowers.
This is clearly shown in her collections of costumes made of paper using different themes, such as spring, summer, autumn and winter, the 36 old streets in Hanoi, conifers, bamboo and plum trees, the seven colours of the rainbow, and taking a walk on the street.

The uniqueness of the paper costumes is that staples and glue are used instead of needles and thread in making the dress. The dress is adorned with stylized roses of different colours or small zinc wires in the shape of sectors which make the dress look lissome and youthful.
Le Huyen Trang said that she had the idea of using paper after a competition at her school. Initially, she made simple skirts with newspaper and paper used for wrapping flowers to experiment. It was very difficult work. Sometimes she had to remake a skirt 50 times. Now she is accustomed to the work and is able to make three or four skirts a day.
A dress made of paper has a similar shape as a dress made of cloth. It must fit the wearer, so the making of a paper dress has the same necessary steps as making one from cloth, from measuring and sewing to adornment. The most difficult step is to make the shape of a dress because the dress must stand firm and have a waist and must not wrinkle. It takes a lot of time to make a long dress, because the paper used to make the dress is 60 x 60cm in size and it can tear easily. The material to make a paper dress is mainly tissue-paper which creates the beauty and durability of the dress.
With skilful hands and meticulous concentration the designer can produce paper stunning costumes which are difficult to distinguish from cloth. They have gorgeous colours and are eye-catching.
