The BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) and BT (Build-Transfer) project to build a tunnel under the Ca pass was signed at the headquarters of the Ministry of Transport on June 14th.
The project, at a cost of VND 15.6 trillion, will build a tunnel through the mountain with 13.4km in length from the point of Km 1353+500 in Hoa Xuan Nam Commune (Hong Ha District, Phu Yen Province) to the Km 1374+525 in Van Tho Commune (Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province).
Under the project, two tunnels will be built, with highway standards for vehicles to travel at speed of 80km/h, by the Vinci Group, a leading French contractor specialising in underground projects.
The project is scheduled to start at the end of the third quarter of 2012 and be operational by the second quarter of 2014.
Once operational, the tunnel will ease the local traffic congestion, improve effective capacity of Highway A1 as well as make contributions to boost socio-economic and tourism development in central provinces.
