Construction on Sai Gon 2 Bridge begins

(VOV) - Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai highlighted Ho Chi Minh City’s timely plan and construction of the Sai Gon 2 Bridge, which will help reduce traffic jams crossing the river.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony in HCM City on April 14, the Deputy PM praised the efforts by local authorities and people to speed up the progress of land clearance. He asked investors and design units to ensure the design of the bridge is followed strictly and to high standards of quality, and that its progress goes according to plan.

The Sai Gon 2 Bridge is being built under the Built-Transfer (BT) model and runs parallel with the existing Sai Gon Bridge. The six-lane, 995 metre long, 23.5 metre wide bridge is scheduled to be completed within two years with a total investment of more than VND1,495 billion.

Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee, Le Hoang Quan, said that the construction of the bridge urgently needed as there is frequent traffic congestion on the existing Sai Gon Bridge. When completed, the new bridge will help ease traffic jams, improve the efficiency of transport projects on the eastern gateway artery into the city, and boost socio-economic development in the city and key southern economic zones.
