Conference on fighting AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Hanoi

The Hanoitimes - The 8th conference o­n fighting AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in the East Asian-Pacific region opened in Hanoi o­n September 27.

The event was attended by over 200 delegates from Vietnam’s Ministry of Health; the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; and international organizations along with representatives of countries and organizations that receive assistance from the Global Fund.

The conference aims to find solutions to issues related to the financial management of projects sponsored by the Global Fund to reduce costs, establish suitable approaches and encourage national self-control.

Since 2002, Vietnam has been given more than US$400 million by the Global Fund to fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. In addition to finances, Vietnam has also been supported in term of technology and management.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Xuyen stressed that Vietnam has committed to follow the regulations set by the Global Fund and use the assistance effectively. The results of the projects have importantly contributed to the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Vietnam .

In addition to plenary sessions and proposals for the strategy of the Global Fund in the 2011-2016 period, delegates will take part in a variety of seminars and visit places carrying out projects o­n HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis prevention in Vietnam .

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is an international financing institution that invests the world’s money to save lives. To date, it has committed US$ 22.4 billion in 150 countries to support large-scale prevention, treatment and care programs against the three diseases.
