Famous HCMC comedienne Kim Ngoc died after a stroke at her house on Sunday afternoon.

Ngoc was born in 1943 in a poor family of pork sellers in Giong Ong To in Thu Duc District (now District 2). As the eldest sister, she helped her mother care for 14 brothers and sisters.
Ngoc was discovered by the owner of Thu Do theater company because of her beautiful voice and trained as a cai luong (Southern opera) artist. She played in many troupes and was very popular for her role as Chu Chi Nhuoc in the play “Co gai Do Long”.
Kim Ngoc was also called the fiend by the press.
When cai luong lost popularity, Kim Ngoc started to join her son, comedian Hieu Hien in stand-up shows in city theaters and around the Southern provinces.
Through all the ups and downs in her career, Kim Ngoc always smiled and gave her all to the arts.
The burial ceremony will take place at 6 a.m. on Friday at Linh Son Tu Pagoda in HCMC’s District 9.
