There should be a close coordination between researchers and businesses to increase the efficiency of scientific and technological application in research work.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan was speaking at the June 29 meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) to examine its application of science and technology in research work in the 2006-2007 period and tasks set for 2011-2015 period.
According to MoIT, approximately 24 research institutes are under its management, including two in charge of strategy and development policy.
The State has approved 16 of its research projects at a total cost of VND245 billion for the 2006-2010 period.
Many institutes have increased their revenues from tens of billions of VND in 2006 to more than VND500 billion in 2010, and 30 research projects have been awarded for scientific and technological creativity.
In his speech, Mr Nhan praised the ministry’s operational model based on self-financing and self-responsibility mechanism for researchers to earn higher incomes.
The Deputy PM called on the ministry to increase the quality of scientific and technological products and researchers to keep pace with national development.
