The HCM City Ballet and Symphony Orchestra (HBSO) will grace the stage on June 19 with a music and ballet performance by young and veteran performers.

The concert will open with music by Charles-Francois Gounod, a French composer known for the work Ave Maria, and the operas Faust and Romeo et Juliette.

Soprano Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga, tenor Pham Trang, and baritone Bui Danh Hung will perform Messe Solennelle, a seven-chapter piece for orchestra and chorus written by the French composer in 1854.

Also known as the Saint Cecilia Mass, the work was first performed for the church of Saint Austache in Paris on Saint Cecilia's Day, November 22, 1855. After its debut, the work helped Gounod earn his fame.

Nga, Trang and Hung will sing with the HBSO Choir.

Young conductor Tran Nhat Minh, a graduate of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, will lead the orchestra and choir.

The second part of the programme will feature classical ballet performances by HBSO dancers.

Phi Diep and Diem Trang will perform several pieces from the famous Diane and Acteon Pas de Deux, originally choreographed and performed by French artist Drigo Petipa.

Duc Nhuan, Quynh Ly, Hai Anh, Hoang Yen and Duc Thinh will perform solo pieces set to music by Tchaikovsky.
