HCMC – HCMC authorities have surveyed a riverine tourism route connecting Bach Dang Wharf in the downtown and the outlying coastal district of Can Gio to get prepared for the development of stops along the route.

HCMC vice chairwoman Nguyen Thi Hong and other high officials of the city made a trip to assess the planned riverine route on Tuesday, said Nguyen Viet Anh, head of the Travel Division under the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The trip took in three major stops in Tam Thon Hiep Commune, he said.

“Vice chairwoman Hong brought agencies concerned along during the field trip to mull formulating appropriate investment and development plans,” Anh said.

According to Anh, the trip found an Apodidae farm as a potential tourist attraction plus two other places that should be developed into sites of interest for tourists. Community involvement is also an option, Anh said, adding local people will be given training to join the plan.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in May will send the city government a catalogue of policies that should be adopted to encourage this kind of tourism and another of infrastructure items that should be developed.

Riverine tour development is one of the focuses of the city authorities, with a number of tours having been put into service since last year.
