The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court on Friday sentenced five people to death and three others to life imprisonment for trafficking heroin.
They were members of a trans-national drug trafficking ring that was broken down in January 2010.
Receiving the death sentences were Nguyen Xuan Dan (born in 1974, resident of Phu Nhuan District), Luu Hoang Thao (born in 1981, resident of District 8), Vo Anh Tuan (born in 1971, resident of District 1), Vo Tien Thang (born in 1974, resident of District 10) and Hoang Phung Bac Son, born in 1976, resident of Binh Thanh District.
The three life sentences went to Truong Van Hoa, born in 1976, Tran Ngoc Dinh, born in 1976, and Lu Huu Loi, born in 1980.
Six other members of the ring got jail sentences of between 7-20 years.
According to the indictment, between 2008 and January 2010, the ring dealt 20 cakes of heroin and more than 300 grams of drugs.
