Chinese-made gelatin banned in Viet Nam

The Ministry of Health has banned local drug producers from using gelatin made by six Chinese companies. The companies are based in the provinces of Zhejiang, Heibei, Jiangxi and Shangdong.

China recently banned the use of industrial gelatin in making medicinal capsules because of excessive chromium content.

The Drug Aministration of Viet Nam asked local companies to strengthen control over the quality of gelatin they use, particularly its toxic content.

HCM City air pollution reaches alarming levels

Results of the latest studies done by the HCM City Department of Natural Resources and Environment show that air pollution exceeds the permitted level by 1.46-2.3 times.

The concentration of dust in the atmosphere, according to data collected from nine observation stations in the city, is between 0.44-0.69mg per square meter.

Noise pollution has exceeded the permitted level at 77-81dB, the studies show.

City schools to hire native English speakers

Under a project approved by the HCM City administration recently, about 100 public schools at all levels will have at least one native speaker of English as a teacher in the coming school year.

The project is part of a programme that seeks to popularise and improve the English skills of students in the city by 2020.
