Chinese coach Quiao Yu Chuan will manage the women's volleyball team at the Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia this November, the Volleyball Federation of Viet Nam (VFV) confirmed yesterday.
HA NOI —
An official from the VFV said the Chinese coach, who finished a two-month trial with the team last week, will take the position on a one-year contract, which is expected to be signed next week.
"Following an agreement last week, Quiao will train both the women's and the youth teams in preparation for the SEA Games and the World University Games this year," Nguyen Thi Nhat Thanh, an official from the VFV, said.
"The federation will extend the contract if the team put in their best performance at the SEA Games," she added.
As scheduled, the women's team will also be competing in the Asian Women's Volleyball Cup in September.
Quiao, who spent 10 years coaching Chinese club Sichuan, has four months to prepare for the SEA Games.
Last year, the VFV also recruited China's Rong Han Yan to coach the team.
The team ranked third at the International VTV Cup in the Central Highlands Province of Dac Lac last week.
The Vietnamese team, that won SEA Games silver medals in 2007 and 2009, have yet to clinch the top prize. — VNS
