Chess Grand Master Le Quang Liem to join 2012 Olympic torch relay

(CPV) - Vietnam's top chess player - Grand Master Le Quang Liem and Miss Vietnam World 2007 Ngo Phuong Lan will represent Vietnam at the 2012 Olympic torch relay in Manchester, the UK, this June.

(CPV) - Vietnam's top chess player - Grand Master Le Quang Liem and Miss Vietnam World 2007 Ngo Phuong Lan will represent Vietnam at the 2012 Olympic torch relay in Manchester, the UK, this June.

Liem was invited to join the event even though no chess events will be held at the Olympics. Liem and Phuong Lan will join the rally along with more than 100 outstanding individuals from around the world.

The two Vietnamese representatives are very popular for their remarkable achievements and great contributions for the development of the society.

In 2012, Le Quang Liem will participate in many tournaments to improve his ranking as well as gaining experiences. As scheduled, on the night of January 22nd (the last day of the traditional lunar year), he will fly to the UK to compete at the Gibraltar tournament, Aeroflot tournament (from February 6th -18th in Russia), Asia championship (in May) and world chess team tournament (in August).

The torch relay is one of the traditional events held before the Olympic Games officially opens. This year, around 6,800 torchbearers will carry the Olympic torch for 70 days through more than 1,000 cities, towns and villages in the UK before returning to the capital of London and lighting the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony on July 27th./.
