HCMC – Local banks should cut taxes and transaction fees to encourage cardholders to use point of sale (POS) services, the Central bank’s payments department head Bui Quang Tien said in a seminar on Thursday.
Speaking at a seminar on Thursday Tien said it was also safer for people to use POS services rather than cash at supermarkets or commercial centers or when they pay toll fees, buy fuel and bus tickets.
The credit institutions should connect more ATM machines and POS terminals at tourist sites and airports while ensuring the safety of users.
State agencies should take the lead in the program by delivering salaries, paying taxes and customs fees via accounts. The non-cash payment method would also help prevent losses and corruption, Tien added.
There are about 11,000 ATM machines, 46,000 POS and 28 million ATM cards in Vietnam. Many banks provide payment services such as Internet Banking, Mobile Banking and e-purse.
