The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh, ministry and sector officials, and leaders of Mekong Delta provinces, as well as Ca Mau’s Vietnamese heroic mothers, veterans and thousands of local residents.
Addressing the ceremony, the Deputy PM praised the outstanding achievements recorded by the Ca Mau Party Committee, administration and people over the past 15 years.
He stressed that Ca Mau should continue striving to overcome its difficulties and challenges to move towards comprehensive, sustainable development in the future.
He urged the province to focus on upgrading infrastructure, ensuring social safety and security, eliminating poverty and improving people’s material and spiritual lives.
Over the past 15 years, Ca Mau has overcome poverty to become a middle-income province and one of the four key economic zones in the Mekong Delta region, with average annual growth of 11% and an average per capita income of over US$1,120, four times higher than that in 1997.
Cau Mau also has the Mui Ca Mau World Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO recognized natural site which can be promoted for eco-tourism.
