CAN THO – Some 1,000 tons of organic rice is exported by the Ca Mau-based company Vien Phu every year, mostly to the U.S. market at US$10 per kilo.

Ca Mau’s organic rice has been recognized by the international organization BIO Organic and the U.S.-based Organic Product. It is the first rice product of Vietnam to be granted international certification.

Vien Phu has been growing organic rice on 320 hectares of wetland in U Minh District, Ca Mau since 2009. The four rice brands Hoa sua den, Hoa sua tim, Hoa sua do, Hoa sua trang produced by Vien Phu are long-grain rice with each having a specific fragrance.

The organic rice products have treatment effects on some diseases because they are not genetically modified or irradiated for sterilization, and do not contain hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and preservatives.
