CPV Central Committee’s fourth conference concludes

(VOV) - The fourth conference of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee concluded in Hanoi on December 31, finalizing its entire agenda after six days of intensive work.

In his closing speech, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said the conference demonstrated the high sense of responsibility, democracy, brainpower and frankness of the political system and many new resolutions were adopted.

The conference focused its discussions on Party building and developing uniform infrastructure to meet the requirements for national modernization and industrialization in the 2011-2020 period.

Party leader Trong said the Central Party Committee (CPC) decided to issue a resolution directing infrastructure development from now until 2020.

Over the past few years, concentration has been on developing infrastructure which has contributed significantly to ensuring socio-economic development, national construction and defence. However, the infrastructure system still has some limitations and weaknesses and has failed to keep pace with the process of national modernization and industrialization.

The conference underlined the need to mobilize all available resources to develop a uniform infrastructure through 2020 to ensure sustainable economic growth and national security, promote international integration, protect the environment and cope with climate change.

The CPC devised orientations for developing ten key areas including transport, energy, irrigation, urban development, and trade, as well as communications, education and training, science and technology, health care, culture, sports and tourism.

The conference stressed the necessity of improving the efficiency of State management, as well as the legal system, investment mechanisms and policies in order to reach all the set targets.

Party leader Trong said the CPC needs to issue a resolution on urgent issues related to Party building with a focus on preventing the degradation of the political ideology, morality and lifestyles of a section of Party members, particularly leaders and managers at all levels. It is also crucial to build a contingent of qualified cadres and exercise criticism and self-criticism to promote Party building and rectification.

In conclusion, Mr Trong affirmed that the fourth conference was a great success and the achievements in 2011 will provide fresh impetus for implementing the 11 th National Party Congress resolution.

He also noted that, with the predicted difficulties and challenges that lie ahead in 2012, all tasks and solutions set for next year should be carried out strictly and properly.
