VGP – The consumer price index in March increased by 0.16% against the previous month amid rising prices of certain commodities, reported the General Statistics Office.
Of the CPI basket of representative goods and services, the prices of electricity, water, fuel, and construction materials surged by 2.31%, followed by education charges 1.11% and transport fees 1.08%.
Meanwhile, the prices of telecommunication and catering services fell down by 0.02% and 0.83%, respectively.
Regarding the country’s CPI trend, the General Statistics Office said caution is still needed due to tensions in some part of the world.
It is projected that the CPI may not surge in April as the tightened monetary policy implemented over the past year is now taking effect.
With the March’s CPI, the target of pulling down inflation rate to one digit is within reach this year.
