While relevant agencies have yet to pinpoint the cause of the fires that have destroyed more than 40 motorbikes and cars nationwide since last year, a bus and a bike suffered the same fate yesterday, but luckily, no casualties were reported.

Early morning yesterday, a 28-seat bus suddenly exploded into flames on National Highway 14 in Thuan An Commune, Dak Mil District, Dak Nong Province.

After an explosion in the rear of the vehicle, a flame broke out and then spread rapidly, said the bus driver, Le Minh Nhat, of Pleiku City, Gia Lai Province.

All the 28 passengers managed to get out of the vehicle safely, but the fire, which was supported by strong wind, consumed the entire bus despite Nhat’s and others’ efforts to put it out using fire extinguishers.

Most of the passenger luggage on the bus was also destroyed in the fire.

The local police who were called to the scene are investigating the cause of the incident.

At noon, a Honda Wave RSX 110 motorbike also burst into fire while 29-year-old Tran Thanh Duan was riding it, carrying his wife and child, in an alley in Tan Phong Ward in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai Province.

The flame originated from the vehicle’s engine and as all the three people got off the bike in time, none of them was injured, but the fire burned down the vehicle, Duan said.

Dung said he bought the bike nearly a year ago from a Honda motorbike shop in Bien Hoa.
