Politics:

-- Vietnam strongly protests and requests that China cease the invitation of international bids for 09 oil and gas lots within Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Luong Thanh Nghi. The statement has been made after the China National Offshore Oil Corporation invited international bidders for the lots on June 23.

Society:

-- The 13th ASEAN University Network Education Forum and Young Speakers’ Contest has begun in Ho Chi Minh City. This year’s forum, themed “Global Citizenship and Intercultural Competence”, has attracted more than 60 delegates and students from nine ASEAN countries as well as Japan , the Republic of Korea and China.

Business:

-- The 2012 Vietnam International Fisheries Exhibition and Trade Fair (Vietfish) has been opened in Ho Chi Minh City. The three-day fair aims to promote trade and help establish a good reputation for Vietnamese fisheries brands on the global market.

-- Cambodia saw a large increase in the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting the country in the first five months of this year, to about 305,000, according to statistics released by Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism. Almost 1.5 million overseas holiday-makers arrived in the country during this period, a year on year increase of 26.3 percent.

-- An international seminar on Cham civilizations - the links between Vietnam and India, has been opened in central coastal city of Da Nang.
