President Serzh Sargsyan’s visit takes place in the context the two countries’ traditional friendship has seen positive developments and coincident with the 20th anniversary of the Vietnam-Armenia diplomatic ties (July 14- 1992-2012).
The friendship and traditional co-operation between Vietnam and Armenia is positively developing in all fields. The fine relations have been marked by exchanges of high ranking visits in recent years and both countries have co-ordinated and supported each other in international forums. However, the economic and trade ties between Vietnam and Armenia have not yet matched the potentials.
Two-way trade reached nearly US$21 million in 2010, of which Vietnam’s imports worth US$15 million and exports worth US$5 million and in 2011, US$7.4 million.
Armenia imported telephones and spare parts, products made from iron and steel, rice, tea, coffee, seafood and garments and exported machineries, components and spare parts, cotton, wood and wooden products and material, and plastic from Vietnam .
Vietnam and Armenia have signed agreements on economic and trade co-operation, investment encouragement and protection, and on cultural, scientific and technological co-operation.
The visit aims to strengthen multifaceted co-operation between the two countries, especially in economics, trade, and in fields of the two countries’ strengths, as well as exchange views on international and regional issues of common concern.
May the visit to Vietnam by President Serzh Sargsyan be successful, contributing to improving the friendship and traditional co-operation between Vietnam and Armenia, for peace, stability, and co-operation in the region and the world.
