Nhan Dan – The seventh Ho Chi Minh City book festival with the theme 'Books: Knowledge, Integration and Development’ was launched at Le Van Tam Cultural Park in District 1 on March 19.
The opening was attended by Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha; Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Chairwoman of the of City People’s Council, Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam; and Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Do Quy Doan.
The biennial festival is a popular cultural event in Ho Chi Minh City and aims to promote a reading culture among the public.
The book festival attracted most Vietnamese publishing houses as well as many famous foreign publishers including Cambridge and Oxford University Presses, Pearson, MacMillan, McGraw Hill, Penguin, Garnet, and Sterling.
Over 200,000 titles were on display and for sale in nearly 500 booths at the festival.
A highlight of the event is the exhibition of books about President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam’s sea and islands, as well as some booths offereing rare and fine books.
The Ho Chi Minh City book festival will run until March 25.
