The Bank of Thailand (BoT) and the Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) have signed an MoU on the BoT’s technical assistance for the CBM with hopes to benefit Myanmar ’s banking sector and the ASEAN Economic Community.

The MoU was signed on June 19 by BoT Governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul and his Burmese counterpart Than Nyein. The MoU was aimed at providing knowledge and developing skills in terms of banking for the CBM’s employees.

Prasarn said the Thai central bank will help develop the CBM with cooperation from other organisations from Thailand and other countries. The assistance for the CBM will come in many forms, such as consultancy, experience sharing, professional field trips and scholarships.

Prasarn said if Myanmar ’s monetary system is efficient, it will be good for the Thai-Burmese trade as Thailand is Myanmar ’s largest trade partner.-VNA/NNT
