(VOV) - The risk of blue-ear pig disease spreading across northern provinces is very high, the Animal Health Department has warned.
Blue-ear pig disease hits five provinces Blue-ear pig disease spreading far and wide Several outbreaks of the disease have occurred in the provinces of Lao Cai and Bac Ninh in the last two weeks. In Lao Cai, the epidemic hit 83 breeding households from April 14-26, while in Bac Ninh, it affected 98 pig-raising households from April 27 to May 6.
The head of the Animal Health Department, Hoang Van Nam, said the epidemic has spread quickly in these provinces because it was detected late, leaving the slaughtering to take place as usual.
Nam’s agency urged provinces affected by the disease, including Dien Bien, Yen Bai, Nam Dinh, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, and Bac Ninh, to take proactive measures against the epidemic, such as vaccinating, temporarily stopping the transport of pigs and pig products, and disinfecting the affected areas.
