(VOV) - The Department of Animal Health has warned localities about the wide spread of blue-ear pig disease.
Nearly 66,000 cattle culled
At a meeting in Hanoi on April 24, the National Steering Committee for Avian Influenza Prevention and Control (NSCAIPC) said new outbreaks of blue-ear pig disease have occurred in Nam Dinh and Phu Tho provinces.
186 pigs in 12 farms in Yen Khanh and Yen Hong villages, Nam Dinh province, and more than 300 pigs in 31 farms in Thanh Thuy and Thanh Son districts, Phu Tho province have suffered from the disease which is also spreading in Yen Bai and Dien Bien provinces.
Nearly 9,000 pigs have been culled so far but the blue-ear pig disease shows no signs of abating.
To deal with the worsening situation, the NSCAIPC has urged other localities to take preventive measures, and immediately report new outbreaks of the disease to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The Department of Animal Health has sent its working teams to provide 40,000 doses of vaccine for Dien Bien, 60,000 doses for Yen Bai and 20,000 doses for Nam Dinh and monitor the development of the disease.
