The blogger Co Gai Do Long was arrested last Saturday after allegations of slandering high-ranking official.

The blogger, 35, is in custody waiting for further investigation.

She is charged with infringing upon the legal rights and benefits of individuals and State organizations, Pham Quy Ngo, the department head told Tuoi Tre.

Tra has written several entries on her blog attacking a State official and his family for their patronage of showbiz beauties since the beginning of this month, according to investigators.

The blogger also attacked the organization the official works for as a whole, police added.

The investigators’ findings verified that the blogger’s allegations were false and ungrounded, and had damaged the official’s honor and dignity.

Tra had already admitted her wrongdoings, said Cao Minh Nhan, deputy head of the ministry’s department of crime fighting.

In 2007, she was taken to court by Phuong Thanh, a famous pop singer, for posting entries with allegedly falsified information about her and her live show. However, a Ho Chi Minh City court then announced to suspend the case after two trials due to proceeding problems.

Tra is a freelance reporter of several HCMC-based newspapers. Her blog is listed among the most viewed blogs in Vietnam, with 23 million page views the last time it is checked.
