Big human trafficking ring on trial

(VOV) - Twenty nine defendants in the biggest human trafficking ring stood a first instance trial in Hanoi on March 1.

Increase in ‘contract’ prostitution

Ring kingpin Tran Hoang Anh, residing at Hoang Van Thu ward, Hong Bang district, Haiphong province, and 28 others were prosecuted for trafficking in humans, offering “contract” prostitution, and habouring criminals.

The well-organized ring has local centipede-foot-shaped networks in Hanoi, Haiphong, Cao Cai and Yen Bai which enticed young girls and sell them to China.

Hoang Anh conducted a lot of “contract” prostitution affairs, luring many beautiful girls. In 2007, he was given a five-year sentence for providing prostitution services.

From February 2009 to July 2010, he carried out 7 women trafficking and 10 child trafficking cases.

The ring was detected on June 19, 2010 when Nguyen Thi Thuy, an accomplice of the ring, caught red handed selling a 17-year-old girl to China in Lao Cai province. Other accomplices of the ring were arrested later.

Polices rescued 15 victims, including nine under 16 years old and two under 13 years old.

Defendants admitted their crime on the first day of the trial.

The trial will last for one week.
