Beautiful Game comes to local communities

Kids across five cities and provinces Phu Yen, Nghe An, Thua Thien -Hue, Hanoi and HCMC tomorrow will take part in the Premier Skills project.

They will be taught the basics of football by coaches, some of which were recruited nationwide and trained in HCMC in the Premier Skills Phase 2 program jointly held by the British Council, English Premier League and Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) in October.

From that small group of coaches the knock-on effect is now reaching the lives of hundreds of disadvantaged children who are benefiting from regularly playing the Beautiful Game.

Coaches are working with Nguyen Dinh Chieu vision-impaired school (Hanoi), hearing impaired children from Niem Vui school (Phu Yen), homeless children from SOS Village in Vinh, Nghe An and club for street children in Long Bien (Hanoi) as well as football club for disadvantaged children in Thuan An, Thua Thien-Hue and clubs for street kids living in District 5 and District 8 in HCMC.

“Attending the training with Premier League coaches was a great experience for us. Yet even greater than that is that the project provides us with an opportunity to set up the community football clubs for Vietnamese children, especially those who otherwise have limited access to football,” said Giao Van Huong, a member of Community Coach Course, and head coach at Ngoi Nha Hanh Phuc (Happy House) club in Vinh.

Alongside the six community football clubs above, a range of school football clubs at 12 high schools in six provinces will be founded under the project management. The coaches of these clubs are school teachers who also attended the Premier Skills Event.
