Nhan Dan – The Vietnam Cavico company’s Communist Youth Union received the grand prize for the writing contest on ‘Thang Long-Hanoi - A thousand years of culture and heroism’ at an award-presenting ceremony held at the Hanoi Students’ Cultural House on August 31.
Two first prizes went to the Youth Unions of the Hanoi Children’s Palace and Regiment BB38, Division BB2, under Military Zone V. Three second prizes, seven third prizes and 30 consolation prizes were also presented at the ceremony.
Launched in October 2009, the contest attracted many entries from home and abroad; the oldest entrant is 100-year-old Vu Duy Binh from Tay Ho district in Hanoi and the youngest is Ngo Hoang Khanh Van, an 8-year-old pupil from the Mai Dong primary school. Hanoi had the largest number of entries with 728,365.
The contest was held jointly by the Propaganda and Education Department of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, the Hanoi People’s Committee and Ha Noi Moi newspaper.
