Australian Embassy funds VND 800 million for Central provinces

The Australian Ambassador in Vietnam, H.E. Allaster Cox, has just announced a package to fund 4 projects on natural disaster relief, supporting disabled people and creating long-term livelihoods for residents in Central Vietnam.

The money, totalling VND 800 million, is from the Direct Assistance Programme of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam.

The Australian Ambassador said that the Australian Embassy is happy to support such important projects.

Chairman of the Organisation for a Sustainable Life, Phan Trong Binh, said “The projects, including the natural relief one, are significant to Vietnam as they are directed toward the calamity-prone areas and vulnerable people in Vietnam and aimed to ease negative impacts of natural disasters on local people.”

Natural disaster relief is one of the priorities in the climate change adaptation plan of the Australia-Vietnam Development Cooperation Programme.

In the framework of the plan, Australia has supported some Aus$ 30 million since 2001 for projects, especially those to build natural disaster adaptive infrastructure and natural disaster risks management in Central Vietnam.
