The event is intended to mark Australia’s National Aboriginal Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week 2012. The locations include Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai and Ha Giang.

Inspired by the popular 1990 musical, “Bran nue dae,” by Jimmy Chi, the feature film was officially released in Australia in 2010.

Starring Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush; Missy Higgins, one of Australia's best known musicians; and Magda Szubanski, one of Australia's most beloved and celebrated comic actors, the movie recounts the romantic adventure of a young Aboriginal couple set against the spectacularly beautiful Australian landscape.

In 2009, it won Most Popular Feature Film at Melbourne International Film Festival.

Before coming to the Northwest region, the movie was earlier showcased in big cities including Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City . Admission was also free.

NAIDOC Week takes places every July. This year, it officially falls from 1 to 7 July.
