The Loreto Vietnam Australia Program (LVAP) Friday donated 100 bicycles and as many helmets to disadvantaged children in Ho Chi Minh City's Thu Duc District.
The Loreto Vietnam Australia Program (LVAP) Friday donated 100 bicycles and as many helmets to disadvantaged children in Ho Chi Minh City's Thu Duc District.
The 100 children receiving the bicycles and helmets were selected from primary and junior high schools in the district.
Speaking at the gift presenting ceremony, LVAP CEO Trish Franklin said, “The Loreto Program is happy to be with the people of Thu Duc today to distribute 100 new bicycles and helmets for families facing excessive disadvantages.
“We express our gratitude to DOLISA [Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs] and the People’s Committee of Thu Duc for partnering with the Loreto Program in implementing this wonderful project.”
Franklin spoke of the environmentally friendly qualities of bicycles. She said it does not need petrol, requires little maintenance if well-looked after, are good for exercise and improves personal mobility in all weather conditions.
She advised the kids to ride carefully and always wear their helmets, and take care of their new bikes so they will last longer and share the vehicles with their parents and families.
Michelle McAnulty, the wife of the Australian Consul-General in HCMC, was present at the ceremony.
