Nhan Dan - The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee, under the chair of NA Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, continued its fourth session on December 15 discussing a supervisory report on the implementation of policies and laws on building and developing economic zones (EZs) and border EZs.
As reported by the NA supervisory team declared that, after 15 years of implementation, the development of EZs and border EZs was in line with Party and State policies for international economic integration, and has contributed significantly to socio-economic development in a number of localities.
Vietnam currently has 28 border EZs in 21 of the 25 border provinces, covering a total area of 6,000 square kilometres, and contributing to increasing incomes and improving living conditions for the local people.
In addition to the positive results, the report also pointed out some limitations and shortcomings related to the EZs and border Ezs, especially regarding infrastructure and administrative procedures.
The supervisory team also recommended that the NA, Government and relevant ministries and agencies complete the legal system for the development of EZs and border Ezs, focusing on building synchronous infrastructure and promoting administrative reforms to create favorable conditions for strategic investors fromo both home and abroad.
The NA Standing Committee also gave opinions on a number of important issues the same day, including the revised Labour Code and the law on price management.
