(VOV) - The Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association convened in Hanoi on November 29 to mark the 36th founding anniversary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
Representatives from ministries, sectors, and former Vietnamese volunteers sent to Laos participated in the ceremony, along with staff from the Lao embassy and Lao students in Vietnam.
Addressing the meeting, President of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association Vu Trong Kim highlighted the special traditional ties of friendship between the two countries as well as their cooperation in all fields.
Two-way trade turnover between Laos and Vietnam in the first seven months of 2011 rose 60 percent over the same period last year.
So far, Vietnam has invested a total of US$3.3 billion in 203 projects in Laos, becoming one of the largest foreign investors in the country. Meanwhile, Laos has eight investment projects in Vietnam capitalized at over US$66 million.
The Lao ambassador to Vietnam, Somphone Sichaleune, thanked the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association for organizing the event and said the Lao Party, State and people will always remember the services rendered to them by their Vietnamese counterparts over the years.
