The Army team raise the cup in the men’s team event.
Dinh Quang Linh (the Army) and To Duc Hoang (PetroVietnam) made the men’s team final game both exciting and thrilling right from the start. Dinh Quang Linh started the game well and took the lead in the first two sets with the same score of 11-7. Duc Hoang did not give up easily, fighting back to win the next two sets (11-7 and 11-9), but he lost the fifth crucial set.
In the second game, Nguyen Thanh Luan (the Army) edged out Doan Kien Quoc (PetroVietnam) 3-2. Finally, Dao Duy Hoang put confidence back into PetroVietnam when he beat another player from the Army, Duong Van Nam, 3-1. However, the Army finally won 3-1 on aggregate after Dinh Quang Linh defeated Doan Kien Quoc to win the championship title in the men’s team event. PetroVietnam won the silver medal and Hoang Thach Cement Hai Duong and Hanoi T&T shared the bronze.
Meanwhile Ho Chi Minh City Telecommunications beat the Police team 3-2 in the final to successfully defend their position as champions in the women’s team event.
Also on the same day, the players took part in the men’s and women’s doubles events.
Duo Trong Hieu and Thu Huong from Vinh Long created the biggest upset in the mixed doubles after edging out defending champions Dinh Quang Linh and Luong Thi Tam from the Army team 3-2. However, the duo were unable to earn a ticket to the semi-final following their defeat by Ngoc Tu and Minh Hai from Hanoi T&T. In the semi-final games, Hanoi T&T's Ngoc Tu and Minh Hai will meet their team-mates Huy Hoang and Hong Tam, while Ngan Giang and Minh Hieu from Hong Quang Tien Giang will take on Huy Bao and My Trang from Ho Chi Minh City Telecommunications.
In the women's doubles, duo My Trang and Quynh Tram from Ho Chi Minh City Telecommunications will clash with Minh Hai and Thu Hai from Hanoi T&T in the final to be held this evening.
Semi-finalists in the men's doubles were also named. Favourite duo Quang Linh and Thanh Luan from the Army will play against Manh Cuong and Ngoc Tu whilst Van Nam and Duc Luan (the Army) will take on Ngoc Thuan/Duy Hoang (PetroVietnam).
