Health authorities announced Wednesday that another pregnant woman succumbed to the swine flu pandemic, bringing the death toll in Vietnam to 41.
The 16-year-old girl from Mekong Delta Kien Giang Province, who was entering the sixth month of pregnancy, fell ill on Nov 3.
She was admitted to hospital with a high fever four days later. When her condition worsened, she was put on a respirator and treated with antiviral drug Tamiflu.
However, she died on Monday before test results showed she was positive with influenza A (H1N1).
She is the 10th pregnant woman to die from swine flu in Vietnam.
As of Wednesday, the Health Ministry reported 10,800 cases of swine flu infections, including 41 fatalities.
